Dear “Much Younger” Hunger Games Fan…

Dear Much Younger Fan,

I may be “old,” but I get it. Suzanne Collin’s Hunger Games’ trilogy is amazing! A non-fiction reader has been converted!

When I first heard about the books I was disgusted. Children killing children in a game? The idea was repulsive. Who would ever want to read something like that? But then I read it…and I got it. The trilogy isn’t about fighting at all. At it’s core, at the level most girls read it, these books are a love story.

And a beautiful, thrilling love story at that. Katniss. Peeta. Gale. We get wrapped up in it. Follow the plot as it smoothly keeps us flipping pages.

At our core we want to be Katniss. Not because of the bow. Not because of the beauty. We want to be her because of the love. Every girl in this world, whether she admits it or not, is looking for a hero.

Give me a strong guy who would know me and love me like Gale. Give me a caring guy who would give up his very life for me like Peeta. No matter how many times I hurt them, give me someone who would stand up for me. Be willing to die for me. Love me even if it cost him everything.

Maybe when I was your age I looked for this love in relationships. Maybe I watched movies and wished one day that would be me.

But I’ve learned it’s a standard no guy can live up to. My hubby of 11 years is awesome! He loves me and would move the world for me. But he’s not perfect. He can’t fill that empty spot deep in my heart. But he points me to a person who can.

There’s someone who loves you bigger than Gale. He’s braver; stronger. There’s someone who was willing to give it all up for you. And unlike Peeta, He did.

Jesus loved me so much that He died in my place. His love took Him to a bloody cross for me. And even then when I wasn’t sure if loved him or not. And even now when I’m not sure if I love him or this world more. He still loves me. He loves you.

By God’s grace, you will find true love one day. But be assured that no matter what, Jesus loves you with a constant, steadfast love.

Today, whether you’re watching interviews with Josh or admiring Jennifer’s new hair, remember that You are loved. You are cared for. You are cherished more than you can possibly imagine.

With love and understanding,
A Fellow Fan
