I just finished reading Michael Pollan’s “Food Rules” last week. I’m not even sure if it counts as a book because I read it in 2 sittings. It was my first “food book” in awhile, and I really enjoyed it.
Bascially, it lists 64 guidelines for clean, healthy eating. Some of them were pretty funny. Here are a few of my favorites:
“Avoid food products containing ingredients that a third-grader cannot pronounce.”
“Eat only foods that will eventually rot.”
“If it came from a plant, eat it; if it was made in a plant, don’t.”
“It’s not food if it’s called by the same name in every language. (Think Big Mac, Cheetos, or Pringles.)”
“Don’t eat breakfast cereals that change the color of the milk.”
“Eat all the junk food you want as long as you cook it yourself.”
“Don’t get your fuel from the same place your car does.”
And there are 57 more “policies” in the book. If you’re stumped about healthy eating this would be a great place to start. Or if you’re just burned out on it (like myself) this book will get you motivated!
Hence our shopping trips today to the Farmer’s Market and Trader Joe’s…
Oh, and I had Cheesecake Factory cheesecake for dinner. Give me a little grace!=)
