Grace for the Good Girl-Chapters 4-6

Some thoughts on chapters 4-6 from Grace for the Good Girl…

Chapter 4-With a wink and a smile
Highlighted-“Only as I depend on and trust in and fully disclose to the One who knows anyway will I be able to discern when I’m fine-in someone who deserves genuine.”
Pondered-”Are you in a habit of categorizing your emotions into good and bad columns? In your experience, which emotions are acceptable and which ones are unacceptable?”

Chapter 5-Martha and my many things
Highlighted-”I see myself as irreplaceable when I think that the work won’t get done unless I do it. Instead of looking to him to provide what is needed, Martha rolled up her sleeves and took on responsibility for things that may never have been meant for her.” (This was tough to hear!)
“If I am trying to please God, it is difficult to trust God. But when I trust God, pleasing him is automatic.”
Pondered-”What is on your many things list? Are you able to focus on the one thing, or are you always doing one more thing? What if you gave that list to Jesus for a day? What would that day look like?”

Chapter 6-The rule follower
Highlighted-”I was a child of the God of grace but I was looking for life in the law.”
“Striving characterizes the law whereas rest characterizes grace.”
Pondered-”What is the difference between living for God and living from God?”

Summary-”The former regulation is set aside because it was weak and useless (for the law made nothing perfect), and a better hope is introduced, by which we draw near to God.” (Hebrews 7:18-19)
